The University of Southern Maine’s (USM) “2+2” program is a new and exciting option for students from any country looking to earn a high school diploma, attend college classes and earn dual credits, all while living on an authentic college campus in New England, USA.


It’s a great way for students to save money, earn dual credit, gain intercultural exposure, and get a true taste of the American college experience while earning their high school diploma.

University of Southern Maine(USM) is in the major part of Maine, with creative activities, diversity and fresh ideas. USM has three campus and all are located in the heart of Maine-Portland, Gorham and Lewiston. You will never be far from four seasons activities.

The International Academy (TIA) at the University of Southern Maine (USM) is a new and exciting option for students from any country looking to earn a high school diploma, attend college classes and earn dual credits, all while living on an authentic college campus in New England. Students who attend TIA enroll in a curated curriculum of college courses for one year or two years that culminates in earning a diploma from an accredited US high school. Students who graduate from TIA do so with their high school diploma in addition to transferable college credit and have the opportunity to stay at USM for another 2 years (or transfer to another college/university) and earn their undergraduate degree, all for a total of 4 years! This is called USM "2+2" program.

The International Academy is located on USM’s campus in Gorham, Maine, which is located just 15 minutes away from the beautiful city of Portland! 

Overview:

The International Academy (TIA) at the University of Southern Maine (USM) is committed to preparing students for their future in a global society through an accelerated academic program.

The program offers high-achieving international high school students the unique opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up to two years of university credit. You will learn in a safe, beautiful, and diverse environment with a residential staff dedicated to the high school.

This U.S.-based educational experience is open to students entering their junior year (11th grade) of high school. Students accepted into the program can choose either a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or Liberal Arts track and will take USM courses taught by USM professors.


The International Academy at the University of Southern Maine is accredited by the NEASC-Commission on Independent Schools (CIS). This accreditation is recognized by the Maine Board of Education.

Highlights:

Campus:

The International Academy is located on the campus of the University of Southern Maine in the beautiful and peaceful town of Gorham, just 20 minutes from downtown Portland. The classic New England-style campus features easy access to student activities, classes, labs, arts, and recreation. It also provides plenty of space to relax, play, and engage with the surrounding community.

Dormitory:

The newly renovated dorm, Anderson Hall, is home for all TIA students. It provides each student with a comfortable place to study, socialize, and relax.

Anderson Hall offers:

  • A respectful environment with live-in staff, including the Head of School and other administrators who are available to serve as mentors and to address emergencies at all hours;
  • Secure, keyless entry at main entrance;
  • Convenient access to classes, dining services, and activities;
  • Wi-Fi and cable in each room and all common areas;
  • Common lounge and activity space;
  • Laundry facilities.

Dining Services:

There are three dining facilities where students can enjoy daily meals. International cuisine is featured daily, along with homestyle entrees, an extensive variety of seasonal fresh vegetables at the salad bar, and plenty of options for vegetarians and those with a gluten or dairy allergy. Students can also grab a to-go snack in the student center cafe. Whether they enjoy their meals on the Gorham or Portland campus, students will love the flexibility and convenience offered by USM’s residential dining services.

Cancellation is only effective from the date we receive the notification.

o  Cancellation after acceptance and prior to placement confirmation – the downpayment is forfeited.
o  Cancellation after confirmation of placement – 50% of the programme fee is forfeited.
o  No-show or early departure from the programme – 100% of the programme fee is forfeited.

Application procedure (to be done at least 4 months before departure):

1)      Enquiry and submission of the application form.

2)      Pass the prerequisite interview via Skype and make the required downpayment.

3)      School placement arranged.

4)      Get a visa application.

5)      Fulfil the remaining payment and book air ticket after visa approval.

6)      Purchase insurance.

7)      Decide on accommodation.
